Volunteer

Volunteers are interviewed prior to acceptance and are required to successfully pass (or provide copies of recently completed) criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, and, if applicable, FBI fingerprinting.  Please see the Somerset County Library Volunteer Handbook at https://somersetcolibrary.org/documents/sclVolunteerHandbook.pdf  for additional information.

Somerset County Library is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer positions:

  • Volunteer Aide
    • To apply, send your name, contact information, and description of your specific interests and qualifications related to the volunteer position to the Administrative Office using the Contact Us form at https://somersetcolibrary.org/about/contact-us/  Please use “Volunteer Aide” in the subject line.
    • Volunteer Aides assist Somerset County Library staff, Somerset County Federated Library System consortium staff, and/or Friends of Somerset County Library in the public and back office areas.  Volunteer Aides may specialize in one or more of the following areas:
      • Shelving, Cleaning, and Organization
      • Greeter and Tour Guide
      • Friends’ Café
      • Administrative and Clerical Support
      • Marketing & Public Relations
      • Summer Program Support
      • Digitization Projects
      • Special Projects

Other Volunteer Positions that will be filled again as our in person programming opens up again:

  • Guest instructors for STEAM Club, meeting every Monday night at 6 PM.

    • STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Thanks to grants from the Benjamin Bosler Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, the Somerset County Community Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, the Walmart Foundation, and the Institute of Library and Museum Services as administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries through the Library Services and Technology Act’s grants to states program, the Somerset County Federated Library System’s EITC-eligible STEAM Initiative program, and donations from local organizations and individuals, the Library has access to a wide variety of STEM educational resources and curricula for use in workshops, classes, and STEAM Clubs.
  •  Volunteer “littleBits Inventors” who are willing to assist with the littleBits Inventors Club, which meets the First Saturday of every month from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00, and other littleBits events.
