Socially Distanced; Still Connected to You!

As restrictions relax, we are now offering Computer Use by Appointment and Books to Go.

To select your own Books to Go, Just log into your account on the website https://somersetcolibrary.org. Browse our catalog and select the books that you would like. Place a hold on those books. We'll pull them for you and call to schedule a pickup time.

Call the Service Desk at 814-445-5907, menu option 1 to schedule Computer Use by Appointment or to request assistance in choosing your Books to Go. Conemaugh Township Library branch is also offering these services. Contact them at 814-479-0766.

SummerQuest 2020 Imagine Your Story

We have re-imagined Somerset County Library's SummerQuest Program for this summer. Our camps and clubs will be a combination of virtual meetings and Grab & Go Activities. SummerQuest is comprised of four main components:

1. SummerQuest Challenge for all ages, where participants log reading and learning activities online, through an app or in paper for a chance to win prizes.

Register for the SummerQuest Challenge online at https://scfls.beanstack.org/ or complete the challenge on paper for your age group. Participants in each of the four age groups will have a chance to win a Grand Prize 10 inch Android Tablet made possible by generous donations from community groups like Somerset Welfare League.

2. SummerQuest Clubs with weekly Grab & Go Activity Packs plus online activities for preschool, elementary and teen participants.

Stop by the main library lobby on Friday between 10 AM and 4 PM or the Conemaugh Township Library branch on Tuesday & Thursday 1-5 PM or Saturday 11 AM -1 PM and grab one SummerQuest Activity bag + paper SummerQuest Challenge logs per participant. Some weeks all age groups will have the same activities; others, the bags will be separated by age group.

This year we will have daily club activities, too.
Monday: Newspaper Club where budding journalists will be given a weekly assignment to right about and submit. At the end of Summer, we will put everyone's articles together into our own newspaper.
Tuesday: Creative Writing Club Every week we will give you a prompt or the first sentence to a story. Your challenge is to finish the story.
Wednesday: we will be taking virtual field trips. We will post a different link each week with our destination.
Thursday is Family Fun Day. We will provide you with suggestions for games or activities you can do with your family
Friday: we will be hosting a Virtual Story Time through our Teams Meeting Room including a craft that can be made with supplies from the Grab & Go bags.

If you haven't registered already, we do ask that you register either online at https://cutt.ly/SCLSummerQuest2020 or call the library at 814-445-5907 opt.1 so we can make sure we have enough bags on hand.

SummerQuest 2020 STEAM CAMPS

We are offering several SummerQuest STEAM Camps. These are Online + Hands On at Home using equipment and materials that campers borrow through our "Pick Up STEAM" packs. STEAM Camps for ages 8 and up include Piper 1-2-3 Camp, littleBits Coders Camp, and Video Game Design. Camps for teens include Augment Your Reality: Teen AR Camp and Imagine Your Story Through Art. Free registration is required for these STEAM Camps, which are made possible by the SCFLS STEAM Initiative with generous support from Wheeler Bros. Inc. We are also offering Grab & Go meals at the main Somerset County Library location through our Summer Youth Cafe on Monday evenings from 4-5 PM and Fridays from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. These meals are available to kids 18 years and younger. While it is not necessary to register for the meals we do ask that you indicate if you are interested in the Grab & Go meals and any special dietary restrictions so we can make sure we have enough meals on hand. The Conemaugh Township Library branch will also offer meals to go on Thursdays, July 9 - August 6 between 11 AM and 12 PM.

Electronic Resources for Entertainment & Learning

If you or anyone you know needs a library card, online library card applications can be filled out at https://somerset.sparkpa.org/eg/opac/register You can choose a preferred home library (Somerset County Library, Somerset County Bookmobile, or Conemaugh Township Library) from the drop-down box. We will get back to you within one business day with a temporary number that you can use. Once we are fully operational again, you can come in and we will finish the registration process with you for a full service library card.
